The Game of Chess

The game of chess is one of the favorite indoor games that are enjoyed by people worldwide. A board game, played by two players at a time, chess requires lot of patience and intelligence. There are eight rows and eight columns in a chess board and there are sixty four squares, white and black alternately.

There are total 32 pieces, 16 white pieces and 16 black pieces with which the game starts. Each side consists of one Queen, one King, two Knights, two Rooks, two Bishops and eight Pawns. The game starts with the white pieces. The motto of the game is to 'CHECK' and 'MATE' finally anyhow the king of your partner.

Chess is not only restricted to an indoor game now, it has become an integral part of the International Olympic Committee. Apart from this, there is also the World Chess Championship that decides the Chess Champion of the world. Chess players from all across the globe participate in the tournament to prove their mettle.

Chess was believed to be born in India and gradually spread to the rest of the world. The game also developed and changed with time. The game of chess was believed to be an integral part of noble culture throughout the world. Nowadays various chess championships and tournaments are held during different times of the year.

The highest title that one can acquire in chess is that of the Grandmaster. Some of the prominent chess players of the world are Vishwanathan Anand, Garry Kasparov, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Susan Polgar and Mikhail Bolvinnik and so on.
